Mat Gaetz (who was just tapped to be nominated as the next Attorney General) and the next president share much in common. They have both been the subject of criminal investigations and are under heavy scrutiny for those alleged crimes. In the case of Gaetz, he is also the subject of a congressional ethics investigation that was set to release what is expected to be a scathing ethics report relating to denied accusations of drug use and sex with a minor. Now, he has been anointed as Trump’s nominee for Attorney General of the United States, leading the Department of Justice, and has resigned from Congress which is said to end the ethics investigation immediately. Some fear that Gaetz will use the DOJ as a political tool of retribution against both his and President Trump’s political opponents and those investigating or prosecuting either of them. Although some republicans expressed dismay, it is unknown whether the senate will confirm the nomination.
