Jack Smith Resigns

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has resigned after dismissing two federal criminal cases against Trump. The cases were dismissed based upon the justice departments long standing policy of not prosecuting sitting presidents. Smith’s report on his activities is could in litigation over whether any of it will be released. Because neither of the cases will go to trial, some consider the report as the best information on Smith’s considerations in bringing the cases and, possibly, the evidence he intended to introduce in the January 6 case. It is presently unknown whether the Courts will prevent release of the report prior to Trump’s inauguration.
