After a military helicopter collided tragically collided with a commercial jet landing in the Washington DC area killing all on board, President Trump blamed the helicopter and claimed standards were lowered by DEI. “[T]there are things where you have to go by brainpower,” AP reported him as saying at a press conference defending his DEI claim. No evidence has been produced that DEI had anything to do with the cause of the accident and Trump admitted that the cause in under investigation. AP reports that when pressed about how he can blame the incident on DEI if they do not yet know the cause, Trump answered: “Because I have common sense. OK? And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level” (apparently referring to air traffic controllers). Trump claimed the Biden administration terminated “very powerful tests” designed to insure the highest standards of people who do this work. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has characterized blaming disasters on DEI is “a dog whistle for people who ‘don’t have the courage to say the N-word.'”
