Trump Threatens To Retake Panama Canal

Trump claimed the U.S. is being “ripped off” by Panama because of the rates charged to use the Panama Canal and threatened to take control, according to Reuters. He claimed the Chinese are exercising influence and vowed to keep it from “falling into the wrong hands.” Chinese companies reportedly manage two ports at either end of the canal. Reuters reports Trump saying he could “demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, quickly and without question.” Panama’s president responded saying the canal belongs to Panama.
